Becoming a volunteer

Quote from one of our parent volunteers

“Volunteering at the nursery is one of the best decisions I have ever made. The support and welcome has been fantastic from all members of staff and children” Sam

How do I get involved?

    • Decide what areas you would like to help us with
    • Speak to a member of staff
    • Complete a short application form to tell us what you would like to help with and when
    • Complete a DBS check
    • Attend an induction session with a senior staff member to be introduced to our nursery, its ethos and some of it’s policies and procedures.
    • Start volunteering and having fun.

How will I benefit from being a volunteer?

    • You will gain a better understanding of how the school works
    • You will build up good relationships with the school staff and other parents
    • You will gain new skills that can be used in future employment
    • You will have purposeful work experience to include on job application forms
    • You will gain in self-confidence

How will the school benefit?

    • It gives the school a wider range of skills and experience to draw on
    • The school will develop a better understanding of parents and the community
    • Staff will be grateful for the extra help!

How will the children benefit?

When children see their parents or other family members getting involved in school it:

    • Shows them that you are interested in what the school is doing
    • Lets them see that you value what they are learning
    • Helps them learn about good citizenship from your example

Safeguarding

Osborne Nursery school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As part of our safeguarding procedures the following will be needed for all regular volunteers:

    • A DBS check which will be paid for by the school and for which three identifying documents will be needed.
    • Two referees we can contact to check your suitability for working with children.
